Battle for Top Honours in Gauteng and Free State

Organisers have reported full houses and despite the unfortunate weather, are expecting keenly contested finals
There was action galore in the Cell C Sidla Sonke Easter Community Soccer Tournaments yesterday and this morning, as teams not only clashed for a spot in today’s finals, but the boasting rights and the top prizes on offer to the champions in each region.

In Heidedal, Free State, Kenny 1X, Bubchu United, Freedom Stars and Heidedal United will battle it out this morning for a spot in the final, set for 4pm this afternoon at Clive Solomon Stadium. The Botshabelo grounds, which are jam packed, will host semi-finals between Botshabelo Sporting FC and Chelsea FC, while Chipolopolo face Remember FC in the other semi. The final will be played at the same venue later this afternoon. It was yesterday announced that Bloemfontein Celtic will play a Cell C Heidedal tournament selection next Saturday.

Also in the Free State, in Odendaalsrus, KV Rangers meets Bells United, while Liverpool plays Days FC for a spot in the final, scheduled for Kutlwanong Stadium at 3pm. The semi-finals in QwaQwa have been cancelled due to inclement weather, and the games will be rescheduled to a later date.

The QwaQwa tournament has unfortunately been delayed due to heavy rain. Inner Senekal will play Black Vultures in the first semi final while Hurricanes will face Vaaldam in the second semi final.

In Mamelodi, Gauteng, Dream Team booked their place in the finals after overcoming Khonalapho 2-1 on penalties. While Cosmos beat Moroka Swallows by 4-1 in the first semi-final in Alexandra. Cosmos will meet Alexandra FC in the final, after the latter knocked out FC Mavovo. The final is set for 3pm at Alexandra Stadium.

Across town in Meadowlands, Soweto, Black Poison beat Inter Milan 4-2 on the penalties to advance to the final, where they meet Meadowlands Joy, who won 3-1 against Haaibo FC. The final will be played 3.30pm at the KwaMahlobo grounds. The Soweto Bikers will be forming the gaurd of honour for the finalists.

The Mamelodi tournament was affected by the rain causing an unplayable pitch. Dream Team won the first semi final 2-1 on penalties against Khonalapho Mamelodi, after finishing 0-0. No Fear will play Galacticos in the second semi final next weekend.

Cosmos will face tournament favourites FC Alex in the Alex final which takes place at the revamped Alex Stadium this afternoon. Cosmos defeated Moroka Swallows 4-1 in the first semi, while FC Alex had a 3-1 victory over FC Mavo.

In Randfondtein, Soweto Dream Team will meet TrapZone in the final, after winning 5-4 on penalties and 1-0 against Napoli and Golden Eagles respectively. The final is scheduled for a 4pm kick off at Mohlakeng stadium.
